How did I incorporate e-learning into my classroom programme?
We decided right at the beginning of the third term that our ultimate goal for Rata team was to hold an Inquiry Expo to showcase for our parents what the children had ben working on through ot the term and also for the children to have a goal to work towards with their own Inquiry learning, they would then see this process as having a purpose. Lots of hands on experiences were provided in the beginning and our Inquiry learning was based around 'What makes a responsible pet Owner'. The end of term two I had encouraged the children to write down the topics they were interested in finding out more about. Pets came out on top with the majority of children eager to find out more about cats, dogs etc. I asked the question beginning of term 3 'How do we look after the pets we have? The children were veryunsure about how to look after a pet and that animals like humans had feelings etc. To begin with I just immered the children with pets. Each week we had a different pet come and visit our room. The chldren were able to see the pets and ask the owners questions about how they looked after them.
The children were give digital cameras to take photographs of the animals and the interaction taking place. The Key competency for term three had been participating and contributing so each child had a chance to take photos and write a short blurb about their own photo.
This led to our final project which was a short movie about the comparisions between people and animals and what makes a good pet owner. Our expo was a huge success and we got a lot of parents along to see what the children had worked on it was great.
