Suzanne Harris shares Storyjumper, an easy digital story maker that is motivating her students to, "use richer vocabulary because other people are reading their books and they want their books to be like real books. This is making them really work on spelling, capital letters, and full-stops too". Want to know more?

Gaming in education

Gamification in an ILE/MLE - what does this look like? Tracy Barker wants to know more about different interpretations of what gamification of learning looks like. She is interested to hear from teachers who are teaching in an ILE/MLE who may have implemented aspects of gamification or gamified their teaching. Can you help?

Gamification: Tracy Prout is looking for stories from teachers about successful aspects of gamification in the classroom. She is particularly interested in how effective it is for motivating primary aged boys for a Teacher Inquiry Project. Your thoughts would be much appreciated. 

Te Wiki o te Reo Māori: Sam McNeill adds another dimension to the resource sharing in the thread and asks, Wouldn't it be wonderful if a resource like a Kuia Cloud (Granny Cloud) existed to help our ākonga become more fluent? Is this already happening in your school/kura?

What's working well in the early stages of CoLs development and what will need more time and focus for collaborative goals to be realised within and between schools? Two threads exist but we'd love to hear your stories also:

Do You or Are You Linking Teaching as Inquiry and Appraisal? Rosemary Murphy is looking for ways to link teaching as inquiry, appraisal and the PTCs (Codes and Standards) together using a digital platform. Is this something you and your colleagues do already? Thoughts anyone?

What will New Zealand look like in 2037? In this video OECD’s Director for Education and Skills Andreas Schleicher made the reference to teaching young children coding, and cautioned us to think about how rapidly things can change, including jobs and encouraged us to have an open mindset - for openness to new concepts and skills in learning. Bigger concepts/skills/processes like resilience, problem solving, collaborative learning need to be an important focus. What implications do these considerations have on what we teach, how much we teach and what we assess?

Do we need to question the way we assess? In this video OECD’s Director for Education and Skills Andreas Schleicher talks about assessment and learning and how PISA results are looking more to publishing skills, concepts and elements (global competencies, social skills, problem solving skills, collaborative skills) of learning rather than contentAndreas makes a passionate plea for teachers to be designers and disrupters for this change.
