Kia ora whanau

Te Wiki o te Reo Māori/ Māori language week will be in Term 3 week 1 from Monday, 21 July to Sunday, 27 July 2014. This special week provides an opportunity to learn and celebrate te reo Māori. The theme for this year is "Te kupu o te wiki, The word of the week". This theme promotes learning te reo Māori throughout the year. Te kupu o te wiki will introduce 50 new Māori words to the nation over 50 weeks – one new word a week over approximately a year. After 50 weeks, New Zealanders will have 50 new Māori words in their vocabulary.

This page on the NZ Curriculum site is packed full with useful information and links to resources

Here is the list of kupu:

More information can be found on the Korero Māori website.

I am very excited about this challenge, especially thinking about  Te Reo Maori in Mathematics.

Let’s collaborate in building our kite of mathematical terms in Te Reo. http://bit.ly/1mTcMwq

My first kupu  is ‘ tāpiritanga’ which means ‘addition’.

It will be great if we could share one idea / strategy of how you have or will be planning to incorporate this year’s theme or Maori contexts into your teaching practice in mathematics.
