Hi All
Something for those in the 09 area: I'm taking a PD day for moodle newbies on 1 October.
Please send along anyone who is new to moodle or struggling to make it effective. The focus will be on elementary web design - making text styles, pictures and links work. Following this we'll get some engagement happening, with assignments, forums, wikis and workshops.
It will be useful for Secondary and Tertiary teachers.

I had the pleasure of attending the Moodle Moot AU last month. It was exciting to see demonstrated the new features available in Moodle 2.3.

The key advantage for teachers will be drag and drop capabilities in terms of uploading files and folders into a course.

Another advance is the inclusion of Repository sites such as drop box or Flickre in the file chooser. Using these services mean that changes to resources which are synced to these sites will a automatically update in the moodle course, as it acts more as a link than actually uploading the resource.

There were some good workshops on improving course formatting avoiding the "Scroll of Death". New formatting options can be downloaded into moodle as plugins, and allow options such as grids of the the topics, or displaying one topic while the other topics are available as tabs.

Auckland Moodle Users Group Meeting

An open invitation to all Moodle users in the Auckland area, Thursday August 2. We will be reporting on the scope and short and long term goals with the group. This will be a great opportunity to find out where schools are with their Moodle instance. Additional workshops will be created to focus specifically on the needs of the group.

I will also give an overview of the recent Moodle Moot I attended in australia, in particular Moodle 2.3's new features
