iPads in the Junior Classroom

Hi, I would love to know what others are doing with iPads in their classrooms!  I am in a year two class and we have been doing a range of things with them in our room!

- I use them as part of my reading rotation and specify what apps I want the students to use.

- I also use it as part of my maths rotation and again specify the apps I want the students to use.

- I have also got apple t.v set up in my room and use this to airplay shared reading!  My students love reading along with the wonkey donkey!

- I have also used mirroring and the whiteboard app in a maths group situation where students solve problems on their iPad and then turn the mirroring on as they share how they solved the problem with others!

- I have also worked with students to create their own comic lifes about atheletics day.

Would LOVE to hear what others are doing!

CS is a simple comic life app that I have used down with Yr1 can be used right through to Yr6 great introduction App very simple but only takes a few minutes for students to get the hang of.

Much easier than other comic apps like Comic Life - but lacks the ability to tweek!

This is an area of real interest and probably the greatest potential for the iPad! It is a shame that the group of 14 educators I take to Californian  none are from the Early Childhood sector as we not only look at schools but get a 2 day Briefing with Apple in Cupertino on specifically on iPads in Education. An exciting development as I talk to groups around New Zealand (Invercargill to the Bay of Islands) on the role of iPads and the implementation and PD required for the successful role out is the interest in this technology by junior class teachers and even Kindergartens - One large Kindergarten Association I am working with on a project to roll out iPads in all of their Kindergartens in their area - 26 Kindergartens 1700 students.

The apps suggested are all great ones but we have an opportunity to look at Apps that really think outside the box way more than these!

Take a look at any App from Toca Boca - start with Toca Tea Party then for some real fun Toca Hair Salon. These Apps promote rich language and role play - couple this start with a teachers guidance to take it further into art, drama etc for a marvellous experience for students - confession here I have collected the set from Toca Boca!!
